The Immortal Tridentine Latin Mass: The Mass Of All Ages *

ein Bild

"The Most Beautiful Thing this side of Heaven"

"It came forth out of the grand mind of the Church, and lifted us out of earth and out of self, and wrapped us round in a cloud of mystical sweetness and the sublimities of a more than angelic liturgy, and purified us almost without ourselves, and charmed us with the celestial charming, so that our very senses seemed to find vision, hearing, fragrance, taste, and touch beyond what earth can give." [Fr. Faber]

"If there is anything divine among man's possessions which might excite the envy of the citizens of heaven (could they ever be swayed by such a passion), this is undoubtedly the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, by means of which men, having before their eyes, and taking into their hands the very Creator of heaven and earth, experience, while still on earth, a certain anticipation of heaven.

How keenly, then, must mortals strive to preserve and protect this inestimable privilege with all due worship and reverence, and be ever on their guard lest their negligence offend the angels who vie with them in eager adoration!" [Pope Urban VII, 1634]

The Greatest Assaults of Paul VI On The Tridentine Latin Mass *

by Dennis Gabìl

In my comparisons below, TLM will mean the Traditional Latin Mass (aka "The Tridentine Mass," "The Mass of St. Pius V," "The Mass of All Ages") codified, solidified, and standardized by His Holiness, Our venerable Pope St. Pius V in his famous Bull Quo Primum on July 14, 1570, under the guidance of the Holy Ghost, the Paraclete, without any violent break from Church tradition.

The NO Mass will mean the Novus Ordo Missae ("The New Order of the Mass") which was and promulgated by Paul VI in 1969 along with his "Apostolic Constitution" Missale Romanum.

ASSAULT 1: The NO Mass is said in the vernacular instead of Latin, the Church's universal language.  "If anyone says ... that the Mass should be said in vernacular only ... let him be anathema." [Holy Council of Trent, Sess. 22, Canon 9]

ASSAULT 2: The words Introibo ad altare Dei ("I will go in unto the altar of God") are no longer uttered in the NO Mass. If the priest does not go unto the altar of God the sacrifice will not take place. And "The Mass is the same sacrifice as that of the Cross." [Baltimore Catechism, "On the Sacrifice of the Mass"]

ASSAULT 3: The Judica Me (Psalm 42) part present in the TLM is completely erased. In this part, the priest begins by saying, "Judge me, O God, and distinguish my cause from the nation that is not holy: deliver me from the unjust and deceitful man." It is a known fact that there are still many unholy nations left in this world; the same goes for the "unjust and deceitful" man. Also, in this part, two more times the words (Et) Introibo ad altare Dei are uttered. The words altare Dei ("Altar of God") are omitted in the NO Mass.

ASSAULT 4: The Confiteor of the TLM which the server says on behalf of the faithful reads: "I confess to Almighty God, to blessed Mary ever a Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, to all the saints, and to you Father, that I have sinned exceedingly ... ." The Confiteor of the NO Mass reads: "I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters ... ." Catholics confess to God through the priest and not to "brothers and sisters."

ASSAULT 5: No more "We beseech Thee, O Lord, by merits of Thy Saints, whose relics are here, and of all the saints ... ." Only the table of heretics has no relics.

ASSAULT 6: The Gloria of the TLM goes: "Glory be to God on high. And on earth peace to men of good will." This was exactly how the angels sang when Jesus was born (St. Luke 2). The Gloria of the NO Mass goes: "Glory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth." All men on earth do not have good will.
